PUBS & RESTAURANTS IN THE VILLAGE

There are several good options for dining in Middleham all within 2 minutes walking distance, these include: The Richard III, The Dante Arms, The Black Bull and the Middleham Fish Bar.

RICHARD III HOTEL, MIDDLEHAM

Distance - 1 minute walk

Quite literally a stones throw from the cottage, Richard III Hotel is 17th Century pub and restaurant in the centre of Middleham overlooking the little market square. The castle is just behind the pub with views over the dales from the pavement seating and it couldn’t be any dog friendlier if it tried. In our experience the food has always been beautiful, good quality well presented large portions at a reasonable price. The welcome is friendly the pub has a lovely buzz to it. They have Theakstons, Black Sheep and Wensleydale which are all brewed locally and a very impressive Gin range, with the large ballon gin glasses and all the trimmings. The highlight of this pub is the outdoor vibe, all year round, but especially summer the outside is just wonderful, buzzing with people from walkers, to locals, to horse trainers and with 3 other pubs to do a mini tour you never need to leave the village. And in winter as you would expect in a Yorkshire dales pub, the fire is on and the Sunday lunches which are delicious and the meet is locally sourced.

When you don’t fancy a sit down meal , we often grab a pint from the pub, and take it to the Fish & Chip shops picnic table next door. I mean does it get any better?

They are are open every day, all day and provide breakfast, morning coffees, lunches, afternoon teas and dinner. Sunday Lunches are very popular so it is advisable to book!

THE DANTE ARMS, MIDDLEHAM

Distance - 1 minute walk

This pub has a lovely beer garden in the village when it gets busier in the market place, you can sometimes find a spot. The team are very friendly and welcoming to us and our Great Dane boy – he got spoiled with treats. It’s very casual and traditional but great for a pint, some pork scratchings and a natter.

We haven’t eaten here, I understand it’s lighter snacks like toasties. It feels more like a pub for drinking than eating.

THE BLACK BULL, MIDDLEHAM

Distance - 1 minute walk

Lovely friendly new owners, the tables outside the pub are a sun trap and lovely for people watching and watching the world go by. Dogs are welcome too and they serve dog ice cream.

The pub has been tastefully refurbished, it's nice inside with a cosy log fire, great real ales and gin choices, adds to the warm and friendly atmosphere. They have a great gin selection and serve the organic vegan Forged in Wakefield Gin with flavours like: Cherry Blossom & Sherbert Lemon and also a vast selection of IPA's.

They are currently serving homemade pies & burgers, both are epic. They also do a Mac n Cheese burger for veggies. I’m reliably informed that their full menu will be developed in the coming weeks.

MIDDLEHAM FISH BAR

Distance - 1 minute walk

Ok, It’s not a pub or a restaurant but it’s 1 minute away and it really is the best fish and chips I have ever had. And we love fish & chips. It’s got a 5* rating on Trip Advisor.

And did we mention it has picnic tables and a pub next door. A winning combo for a casual night.

It closes at 8pm, we often pre-order for just before closing and get a few cheeky drinks next door.

THE WENSLEYDALE HOTEL, MIDDLEHAM

Distance - 1 minute walk

A small, family run continental style Hotel with bar, outdoor pavement terrace and 'Tack Room' Restaurant.

Lunch is served at 12:00-14:30 and dinner is served at 18:30-21:00. Bookings are welcome on the website or telephone: 01969 622 093. Please note they welcome dogs in the Bar, on the Terrace but not in the restaurant.
